Olmert: "Restraint and Strength"

Just days after the massacre of 8 young students in a Jerusalem yeshiva, Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has the audacity to tell Ashkelon's city council members that "this is the reality of the past 60 years and we must show restraint and strength." Ashkelon, Israel's largest southern town, has been repeatedly hit by rockets since the withdrawal from Gaza in 2005. Does Olmert's statement not perfectly express the problem of the Israeli government? Restraint and strength are opposites. How have the policies of restraint worked for Israel so far? Rockets will continue to fall, Israeli civilians will continue to be slaughtered, and they will be forced to live under the dark shadow of terrorism until this asinine policy of restraint comes to an end.
