Muslim Community Leader Who Spoke With Fort Hood Terrorist: "He Was A Typical Fundamentalist Muslim"
The Daily Beast reports that "not long ago, inside the quiet library of the Muslim Community Center here in Silver Spring, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., Golam Akhter, a local Bangladeshi-American civil engineer, 67, got into a fierce debate with a young Muslim doctor over how to interpret the concept of 'jihad' within Islam. Akhter argued, 'Jihad means an inner struggle, fighting against corruption and injustice.' The young doctor responded. 'That’s not a correct interpretation. Jihad means holy war. When your religion isn’t safe, you have to fight for it. If someone attacks you, you must fight them. That is jihad. You can kill someone who is harming you.'... 'So many time I talked with him,” said Akhter, a community leader who is sort of like a mosque gadfly, challenging congregants to reject literal, rigid interpretations of Islam. 'I was trying to modernize him. I tried my best. He used to hate America as a whole. He was more anti-American than American.' Despite all the conversations, Akther said, 'I couldn’t get through to him. He was a typical fundamentalist Muslim.'" Tweet
Fort Hood Terrorist Major Malik Hasan Went To Same Mosque As Two Of The 9-11 Hijackers
The Telegraph reports that "Hasan, the sole suspect in the massacre of 13 fellow US soldiers in Texas, attended the controversial Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia, in 2001 at the same time as two of the September 11 terrorists, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt. His mother's funeral was held there in May that year. The preacher at the time was Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Yemeni scholar who was banned from addressing a meeting in London by video link in August because he is accused of supporting attacks on British troops and backing terrorist organisations. Hasan's eyes 'lit up' when he mentioned his deep respect for al-Awlaki's teachings, according to a fellow Muslim officer at the Fort Hood base in Texas, the scene of Thursday's horrific shooting spree. As investigators look at Hasan's motives and mindset, his attendance at the mosque could be an important piece of the jigsaw. Al-Awlaki moved to Dar al-Hijrah as imam in January, 2001, from the west coast, and three months later the September 11 hijackers Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour began attending his services. A third hijacker attended his services in California. Hasan was praying at Dar al-Hijrah at about the same time, and the FBI will now want to investigate whether he met the two terrorists. Charles Allen, a former under-secretary for intelligence at the Department of Homeland Security, has described al-Awlaki, who now lives in Yemen, as an 'al-Qaeda supporter, and former spiritual leader to three of the September 11 hijackers... who targets US Muslims with radical online lectures encouraging terrorist attacks from his new home in Yemen'." Iran Tested Advanced Nuclear Warhead Design
The Guardian reports that the "UN's nuclear watchdog has asked Iran to explain evidence suggesting that Iranian scientists have experimented with an advanced nuclear warhead design, the Guardian has learned. The very existence of the technology, known as a 'two-point implosion' device, is officially secret in both the US and Britain, but according to previously unpublished documentation in a dossier compiled by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iranian scientists may have tested high-explosive components of the design. The development was today described by nuclear experts as "breathtaking" and has added urgency to the effort to find a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis. The sophisticated technology, once mastered, allows for the production of smaller and simpler warheads than older models. It reduces the diameter of a warhead and makes it easier to put a nuclear warhead on a missile. Documentation referring to experiments testing a two-point detonation design are part of the evidence of nuclear weaponisation gathered by the IAEA and presented to Iran for its response. The dossier, titled 'Possible Military Dimensions of Iran's Nuclear Program', is drawn in part from reports submitted to it by western intelligence agencies." Tweet
Iranian Math Student Questions Supreme Leader To His Face
Ynetnews.com reports than an "unassuming college math student has become an unlikely hero to many in Iran for daring to criticize the country's most powerful man to his face. Mahmoud Vahidnia has received an outpouring of support from government opponents for the challenge, unprecedented in a country where insulting supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is a crime punishable by prison... In brief excerpts broadcast on state TV, the thin, bespectacled Vahidnia was shown standing behind a podium, gesturing at times for emphasis. 'I don't know why in this country it's not allowed to make any kind of criticism of you,' said the student, wearing a long-sleeved blue polo shirt and appearing calm. 'In the past three to five years that I have been reading newspapers, I have seen no criticism of you, not even by the Assembly of Experts, whose duty is to criticize and supervise the performance of the leader,' he said, referring to the clerical body that chooses the country's supreme leader... The boldness of Vahidnia's comments underlines how Iran's post-election turmoil has undermined the once rock-solid taboo against challenging the supreme leader. During demonstrations, young protesters have frequently chanted 'Death to the dictator" – referring to Khamenei – and even "Khamenei is a murderer.' Several high-ranking pro-opposition clerics have also been openly critical. But so far Vahidnia has been spared. The president of Sharif University even defended the student, saying he spoke within the law. The incident has propelled the soft-spoken man in his early 20s to national prominence and inspired widespread support on the Web. The night of the encounter, fellow students gathered, shouting, 'God is great' and 'death to the dictator' in support of their colleague, according to video footage posted on pro-reform Web sites." Unemployment At 10.2%
The AP reports that the "unemployment rate has hit double digits for the first time since 1983 -- and is likely to go higher. The 10.2 percent jobless rate for October shows how weak the economy remains even though it is growing. The rising jobless rate could threaten the recovery if it saps consumers' confidence and makes them more cautious about spending as the holiday season approaches. The October unemployment rate -- reflecting nearly 16 million jobless people -- jumped from 9.8 percent in September, the Labor Department said Friday. The job losses occurred across most industries, from manufacturing and construction to retail and financial." Tweet
Minority Leader John Boehnor Confuses Declaration Of Independence With Preamble To Constitution
What this proves is that even Republican politicians are unaware of what is actually in the Constitution. This is a display of inexcusable ignorance from the Republican leader who we would expert more from when it comes to the Constitution than some other politicians.
Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black famously said that “the layman’s constitutional view is that what he likes is constitutional and that which he doesn’t like is unconstitutional.” I am afraid that view is also the view of our elected representatives.

Why Was Fort Hood Killer Malik Hassan Not Discharged As A Security Risk?!
A question not being asked anywhere else besides for on this website, an unasked question that demands an answer from the U.S. Army, is why they did not discharge such a security risk known for his "outlandish" views? Col. Terry Lee who knew and worked with Hassan says he was known for his "outlandish" views and that he had said that Muslims should "stand up" to the American "aggressor." In fact, the AP reports that federal "law enforcement officials say the suspected Fort Hood, Texas, shooter had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades." Are U.S. soldiers dead because political correctness forbade law enforcement from doing what was necessary and discharging this soldier? It seems like there is evidence to indicate that this is the case. The American people should loudly be demanding the answers to these important questions. Tweet

Senate Democrats Block Census Question About US Citizenship
The AP reports that "Senate Democrats have blocked a GOP attempt to require next year's census forms to ask people whether they are a U.S. citizen. The proposal by Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter was aimed at excluding immigrants from the population totals that are used to figure the number of congressional representatives for each state. Critics said Vitter's plan would discourage immigrants from responding to the census and would be hugely expensive. They also said that it's long been settled law that the apportionment of congressional seats is determined by the number of people living in each state, regardless of whether they are citizens. A separate survey already collects the data. The plan fell after a 60-39 procedural vote made it ineligible for attachment to a bill funding the census." Tweet

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu: UN Should Discuss Iran "War Crime" Of Smuggling Weapons To Hezbollah
The Jerusalem Post reports that "Iran's attempt to smuggle hundreds of tons of weapons to Hizbullah is a 'war crime,' Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Thursday, adding that the UN would do better to investigate the evident arms flow to Syria and south Lebanon from Iran instead of holding its scheduled discussion on the Goldstone Report."
"The ship was loaded with a huge quantity of weapons meant to reach Hizbullah. The purpose of the missiles was to kill as many civilians as possible. This is a war crime that the Iranian government planned to allow Hizbullah to execute, after [Hizbullah] has already fired thousands of rockets against our communities," Netanyahu said.
"It's a war crime on which the UN Security Council should have held an emergency special session, especially since we are talking about blatant violations of Security Council resolutions. This is a crime that the Iranian regime intends to repeat.
"This is what the international community should be concentrating on every day and on this day in particular. Instead, it has chosen to convene to condemn the IDF and the State of Israel and to undermine our legitimate right to self defense," Netanyahu said, referring to the discussion currently taking place on the Goldstone Report, which, he added "won't deter us."
"It won't prevent us from defending our citizens," the prime minister continued, "because Israeli citizens know the truth, that the IDF is a moral army. We know that what stands between war criminals and war crimes directed against Israeli citizens is the IDF and the Israeli security forces."

Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei Calls On "True Muslims" To Show "Unquenchable Anger Against The Great Satan."
Amir Taheri writes in the NY Post that "yesterday marked the 30th anniver sary of the capture by Khomeinist "students" of the US Embassy in Tehran, triggering the 444-day hostage crisis. The Iranian public seized the chance to reject the regime -- even as the surviving hostage-takers have largely come to regret their actions. For months, Iran's state-controlled media had tried to build up the day as a 'turning point' for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's troubled second term. The occasion was supposed to highlight Ahmadinejad's 'victory over the American Great Satan' and Washington's implicit acceptance of Iran's nuclear project in recent talks in Geneva and Vienna. In a message on the eve of the anniversary, 'Supreme Guide' Ali Khamenei called on 'true Muslims' to show 'unquenchable anger against the Great Satan.' The newspaper Kayhan promised 'the largest crowds in Iran's history.' But events defied the official script. Weeks of "mass mobilization" failed to produce 'the largest crowds in history.' The official news agency, IRNA, which habitually reports 'the marches of the millions,' had to lower its rhetoric to 'tens of thousands.' More, its reports indicated that, in most cases, the authorities had to press-gang schoolchildren into marching. The largest rally, in front of the former US Embassy, attracted no more than 5,000 professional militants, eyewitnesses said. And the opposition seized the chance to show its strength once again. The official media reported that 'the enemies of the revolution' held rallies in more than 100 cites. In cities such as Ahvaz and Yazd, opposition marches pushed official processions to the sidelines."

CBO Director Scores New Proposal From House Republicans On Health Care Reform: Costs $61 Billion, Cuts Deficit, Reduces Insurance Premiums
The CBO Director Doug Elmendorf writes the "CBO released a preliminary analysis of a substitute amendment to H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, proposed by Representative John Boehner, the Republican Leader in the House of Representatives. CBO and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that the amendment would reduce federal deficits by $68 billion over the 2010-2019 period; it would also slightly reduce federal budget deficits in the following decade, relative to those projected under current law, with a total effect during that decade that is in a broad range between zero and one-quarter percent of gross domestic product." He further states that "CBO anticipates that the combination of provisions in the amendment would reduce average private health insurance premiums per enrollee in the United States, relative to what they would be under current law-by 7 percent to 10 percent in the small group market, by 5 percent to 8 percent for individually purchased insurance, and by zero to 3 percent in the large group market. Those are averages, however, and they are subject to a great deal of uncertainty; some individuals and families in each market would see different results." Tweet
NY Post: CBO Says Real Cost Of Pelosi's Health Care Bill Is $1.8 Trillion
The New York Post reports that "If you start the tally when the bills' spending would actually start (in 2013 for the House bill and 2014 for the Senate bill), then the bills' real 10-year costs become clear -- and are remarkably similar. The CBO reports that, in their true first 10 years, the House bill would cost $1.8 trillion, and the Senate bill would cost $1.7 trillion. Pelosi would raise Americans' taxes by $1.1 trillion over that period, while Reid would hike them by $1 trillion. And the House bill would siphon about $800 billion from Medicare to spend it elsewhere, while the Senate bill would suck out about $900 billion. So the financial bottom lines are almost the same. And if we discount the bills' claims to divert hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare (which is already on the edge of insolvency), the CBO says the House bill would raise our national debt by about $650 billion in its real first decade, while the Senate bill would up it by $740 billion. So, the bills would either sock older Americans by taking huge sums of money from Medicare -- or hit future generations with huge tax hikes to cover the shortfall. Whether it's our grandparents or our grandchildren, someone is going to pay." Tweet

Somali Officials Say Women Beaten For Violating Islamic Law
CNN reports that Islamist "militants who control parts of Somalia's capital city are beating women in broad daylight for violating their radical brand of Islamic law, according to local officials and witnesses in Mogadishu. 'Just today, Al-Shabaab dispatched men with whips to the streets around Bakara market and they are flogging any woman who is found not wearing socks,' according to a female maize trader at the Mogadishu market, who spoke Thursday. She did not want to be named for security reasons. In the past two days, more than 130 people, including women who were not wearing headscarves and men chewing dried khat leaves, have been detained for violating Al-Shabaab's interpretation of sharia, or Islamic law, according to witnesses and officials. Hooded Al-Shabaab gunmen rounded up 50 women on Wednesday from Mogadishu's Bakara market for not wearing the veil that is required for women under some interpretations of Islamic law, according to the maize trader. 'Most of these women were vegetable traders, so they are poor and can't afford to buy veils for 600,000 shillings [about $23 U.S.],' she said. She said she saw more women being detained Thursday. Another 80 Somali civilians were detained in the southwestern town of Luuq, near the Kenyan and Ethiopian border, 'because they turned deaf ear to orders we imposed on the town,' said the local Al-Shabaab commander Sheikh Hussien al-Iraqi. Al-Shabaab is considered a terrorist organization by the United States because of its ties to Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network. It has been imposing stricter rules on Somali civilians living in the areas it controls. Earlier this month, Al-Shabaab militants whipped women for wearing bras in an area of northern Mogadishu that they control, shocking residents who have been besieged by the ongoing insurgency. The militants believe the female undergarments are a deception to men." Tweet

Somali Group With Al-Qaeda Ties Threatens Israel
CNN reports that an "Islamist group associated with al Qaeda has for the first time threatened to attack Israel, far from its normal base of operations in Somalia. Al-Shabab, which is fighting to control the east African country, accused Israel of 'starting to destroy' the Al Aqsa mosque, where standoffs have taken place recently between Israeli police and Palestinians. The mosque is part of the complex that Jews call the Temple Mount and Muslims call Haram al-Sharif. 'The Jews started to destroy parts of the holy mosque of Al Aqsa and they routinely kill our Palestinian brothers, so we are committed to defend our Palestinian brothers,' said Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansur, a prominent Al-Shabab commander. His threat was part of a series of fiery sermons delivered after Friday prayers in Baidoa in southwest Somalia. Al-Shabab controls the region, which is part of a country that has been without an effective national government for nearly 20 years. Other leaders of the group also threatened Israel, the first time the group is known to have done so. 'We will transfer and expand our fighting in the Middle East so we can defend Al Aqsa mosque from the Israelis,' Al-Shabab commander Abdifatah Aweys Abu Hamza said in Mogadishu, the Somali capital."
